ANNINGTON HELP FIRST TIME BUYERS ONTO THE PROPERTY LADDER IN WATERBEACH
Official figures show that due to increasing house prices the number of young adults living with their parents has increased by a quarter since 1996.[i]
However, with low mortgage interest rates, and the assistance of government initiatives like Help To Buy, there are opportunities for first time buyers to buck this trend and to take their first steps onto the property ladder. Scott Jones, 24, and Rachel Wombwell 23, have proved that it is achievable by both leaving their family homes and purchasing their first home together in Haling Place, Waterbeach.
Joiner Scott, and his girlfriend Rachel, a receptionist, had both lived in their parents’ homes in Cambridge, saving for a deposit before purchasing a three bedroom property. Scott comments: “Rachel and I have both been living with our parents so we could save for a deposit and get onto the property ladder. We were keen to take advantage of the low mortgage interest rates available so we jumped at the chance when we discovered that Annington were launching another phase of properties at Haling Place. We missed out on the first launch and were delighted when we found out about this house.”
Location was important to Scott and Rachel as they both work in Cambridge town centre, and they wanted an easy commute. They also have friends and family who live in and around Cambridge and it was important that they stayed close to them. They both use the Milton Park and Ride which is a convenient and cost effective way to get into the center of town.
Rachel added: “We wanted to buy in the area around Cambridge as it is more affordable than a central location and it means we can stay close to family and friends. We are both really looking forward to settling down in our new house in a familiar part of town. Scott can’t wait to have the first BBQ in our new garden, so we are hoping for a warm summer!
“We were very pleased with our buying experience and we are very happy with our new home. We would certainly recommend Annington to our family and friends and hope to see some of them follow our lead and move to this friendly community.”
Angela Walsh, Head of Sales & Marketing at Annington, comments: “We are very pleased to have welcomed many new home owners to Haling Place. First time buyers can find excellent value for money in Waterbeach and the homes are proving popular with commuters as Cambridge is less than seven miles away.”
Waterbeach High Street offers a selection of shops, cafes and pubs, as well as a library and brewery, whilst Cambridge provides a greater choice of shopping, dining and entertainment options. There are two local schools in the area; Waterbeach Community Primary School Cottenham Village College, making it an ideal location for families with children of all ages.
Waterbeach railway station provides a direct service to Cambridge and Ely of approximately nine minutes and to London King’s Cross of around an hour. Waterbeach lies close to the busy A10 road and is approximately seven miles from Cambridge city centre – within easy reach for keen cyclists.
