Iris Perry

Iris Perry

Uxbridge retiree loving life after downsizing

Eighteen months after downsizing to a two bedroom apartment in Uxbridge, former nurse Iris Perry has been enjoying everything her new life has to offer.

After 55 years of marriage, Iris sadly became a widow five years ago when she lost her husband David, and hadn’t considered leaving the only family home they had ever owned. It wasn’t until her daughter purchased a property at Beaufort Green (a previous collection of refurbished properties by Annington) that Iris knew she wanted to move. However, Iris was still understandably reluctant to leave behind so many happy memories of David and the family they had raised together.

She comments: “I didn’t think I could ever move from my family house, I was perfectly happy but when my daughter bought a flat here I saw how perfect it was. I’ve never looked back since and quickly settled. I feel as though I have brought David and all of our happy memories with me to this new home which is a wonderful testament to him. I definitely made the right decision to move and everyone noticed how quickly I seemed at home which was lovely.”

Since moving, Iris has fully embraced this new chapter of her life, making the most of everything her home and the surrounding community has to offer. With her son and daughter living nearby, and Uxbridge High Street only ten minutes away, she has quickly developed an active social life.

Iris says: “I really feel as though I have fallen on my feet, and I have been very happy here. I’ve made great friends with my neighbours and other people in the area. Having my garden and the space to entertain makes my home great for socialising which is something I didn’t want to lose when I downsized. I love having my family over and at Christmas we have carols in my living room. My grandchildren love coming to visit and I still have the space to have guests to stay. My children joke that I have become so busy that they have to make an appointment to see me! I’ve joined the local Women’s Institute, History Group and have continued with my creative writing classes, there is so much to do here, it’s wonderful.”

Iris was grateful for the help and advice she received from Annington when purchasing her home, and she has been encouraging other friends to join her: “The sales team helped me choose my flat on the ground floor with a lovely garden and made sure I wouldn’t be overlooked by anyone; I was really appreciative of how thoughtful they were in helping me choose. Even after living here for over a year Annington are still very supportive and there is always someone to help when I need it.”

This year Annington has a developed a further range of properties in Uxbridge, including two bedroom apartments and three bedroom houses, located at Jupiter Heights and Sylvana Close.  The first block of apartments at Jupiter Heights were all reserved quickly when they went on sale in June, and the second block will be available to buy in August with prices starting from £340,000.
