As research reveals that 45% of home owners over the age of 55 are resistant to the idea of moving home in retirement,* homebuyer Brenda Preskett (80) is bucking the trend by showing that it’s never too late to make the move.
Brenda sold what she thought was her forever home and relocated to Bordon, Hampshire, purchasing a two-bedroom semi-detached home at Annington’s Woodland View development.
Living in a two-bedroom apartment with no garden and having struggled with lockdown restrictions during the pandemic, Brenda seized the opportunity to move closer to her son who was living in Haslemere once restrictions were eased.
Brenda commented: “The lockdown highlighted to me that my apartment just didn’t suit my needs anymore and I ended up feeling very cooped up with no garden of my own. I’ve never been afraid of a challenge, so I decided to embrace a new chapter and relocate across the country.”
Brenda purchased a two-bedroom former Ministry of Defence (MOD) property in Bordon for £235,000, which had been fully refurbished throughout by Annington prior to sale on the open market. The property has been fitted with a brand-new kitchen, bathroom, front door, energy efficient boiler and a full insulation refit. With all of the major refurbishment out of the way before moving in, Brenda has been able to turn her attention to her much-anticipated garden, having installed a patio, path and a large flower bed.
“I came across the development online when searching and knew this was the one,” Brenda says. “All of the other properties in my price bracket were in a really poor state, and while I like a project, I didn’t want a doer-upper! It was a weight off my shoulders knowing that Annington has already done the work for me, and I could walk straight into my new home.”
Brenda, who is mortgage free, has settled into life at Woodland View, which is home to a range of buyers of all ages including young families and a thriving crowd of retired residents. Brenda adds: “Our little corner of Woodland View has a really nice mix of young couples, families, and similarly-aged retirees. There’s a really lovely community here and I feel like I fit right in.”
Louise Saunders, Sales and Marketing Manager for Annington, adds: “Our properties have proven popular with retired buyers that are looking for a straightforward move and the mixed-age neighbourhood is a real draw for those who still want to get stuck into the community spirit.”« Back to testimonials page
