ANNINGTON BRANCHES OUT WITH DONATION FOR 420 TREES IN ABINGDON

Community action group Abingdon Carbon Cutters has recently planted 420 trees at Rye Farm Meadow, helped by a donation from Annington, who is refurbishing former MOD housing at Lamborough Fields in nearby Shippon. The trees were provided free by the Woodland Trust who offer trees to community groups – this is the third consignment for the meadow from them. The tree planting took place on Saturday 18th March and was attended by over 100 volunteers, all striving towards a greener and more environmentally friendly future for Abingdon.

Abingdon Carbon Cutters is an Oxfordshire Community Action Group that was established in 2008, formed by local residents united by a shared goal to reduce carbon emissions for future generations. The stakes for the recent tree planting were funded by a £400 donation from Annington, and helped towards the group’s mission to plant 1,500 trees on Rye Farm Meadow by the end of this year.

Caroline Townsend, Chair for Abingdon Carbon Cutters, commented: “Our purpose is simple: we believe that collective effort is instrumental in bringing about real environmental change. Rather than wait for someone else to do the job, we have a group of like-minded individuals who have accomplished great things by tackling rising carbon emissions. Our tree planting days are a great way for volunteers to grab a pair of gloves and a spade, and do something really worthwhile. It’s reassuring to see a company like Annington support environmental causes like ours, and help the local community in Abingdon.”

Stacy Whitehead, Marketing Manager at Annington, added: “Carbon Cutters’ ethos aligns closely with our own mission to create sustainable, climate conscious homes. We are refurbishing former MOD houses in Lamborough Fields, offering residents solar panels and electric vehicle chargers. As part of our community-focused plans, we’re proud to support Abingdon Carbon Cutters’ mission to plant trees in the local area, and hope our residents will be inspired by and join in with their efforts.”

The energy efficient homes at Lamborough Fields are priced from £274,000 for a two-bedroom home. To find out more about the properties for sale in Shippon, please contact the allocated selling agent Davis Tate on 01235 526907, or email abingdon@davistate.com.
