Annington became one of the largest private owners of residential property in the UK following the purchase of 57,434 homes from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in 1996. Since then, we have invested time, money and expertise in regenerating thousands of these homes and returning them to the national housing stock. To date, we are proud to have helped over 15,000 homebuyers, many of whom were first time buyers and key workers.
Our unique history means that we often sell homes in areas previously unavailable to the general public. Many of our homes offer spacious accommodation with larger than average rooms and gardens. Our developments are also often surrounded by more open space than you might find elsewhere.
Whilst our primary business is the refurbishment and sale of former MoD homes, we also privately let a number of properties and occasionally redevelop sites or build new homes.
Our homes range in style and size from one bedroom apartments through to eight bedroom executive houses. So, whether you are a first-time buyer, relocating, buying to let, upsizing or downsizing, we make it easy to find your perfect home.
In November 1996 we purchased 57,434 homes from the MoD in England and Wales. This portfolio of homes was known as the ‘Married Quarters Estate’.
The majority of these homes are leased back to the MoD for continued use as service accommodation. Each year those homes that are no longer needed by the MoD are handed back to us. The MoD continues to manage and maintain the properties it rents whilst we have sole responsibility for surplus properties handed over.
As well as selling these former MoD homes, we often bring new life to local communities through new developments and by enhancing surrounding environments.
The Annington Trust was established in 1996 for the benefit of service families living on ‘the patch’ (military barracks), with the objective of sponsoring community activities and projects. Since then, the trustees, who include the chairmen of the three Services’ Families Federations, have disbursed some £185,000 to support over 300 projects. The grants have varied in size from a few hundred pounds for pre-school activities or sports clubs, to major awards of several thousand pounds to provide much needed support for families at a time when the services are heavily engaged in overseas operations.
