Located in the northwest corner of Kent, the beautiful county often referred to as ‘The Garden of England’ due to its abundance of orchards and hop gardens, is the charming village of Chattenden. A small community close to the neighbouring villages of Wainscott, Brompton and High Halstow, Chattenden provides a welcoming environment ideal for local families.
Situated conveniently close to Strood and Gillingham, Chattenden maintain its close-knit village feel, whilst being within easy access of all the modern amenities of these urban towns. There is a wide selection of shops, restaurants and cafes in both Strood and Gillingham, and an even greater choice of shopping, dining and entertainment facilities in the larger towns of Gravesend and Chatham, each within a half-hour drive.
Athletic types can enjoy the beautiful Kent scenery, with Great Chattenden Woods on the doorstep of the village, which - as a dedicated Site of Special Scientific Interest, due to the wide range of insects, birds, plants and trees available to view there - provides a wide expanse of open land on which to run and cycle. The nearby Coxham Wood offers a more relaxed route, with a network of footpaths specially designed for those who like to enjoy a more leisurely pace. Avid golfers can enjoy a prime location, just minutes from Deangate Ridge Golf Club.
The area surrounding Chattenden boasts a rich history, and there are numerous points of historic interest in and around the village. Chatham Historic Dockyard and the Royal Engineers Museum are each within two miles of Chattenden village, whereas Leeds Castle, Rochester Castle, Eynsford Castle and Lullingstone Castle can also be found within a half-hour drive.
Chattenden residents are in close proximity to a selection of good schools. Chattenden School, Hoo St Werburgh School, St Mary’s Island C of E School and Wainscott School all offer a good level of primary education, whilst a little further afield, the Brompton Academy in Gillingham and King’s School in Rochester cater for secondary school pupils, and the University of Kent and University of Essex offer strong higher-education facilities.
Chattenden is well connected to its surrounding area. Situated around 17 miles from the M25, Chattenden is within easy reach of the capital and all the major roads linking the South with the rest of the country. Strood train station provides a direct service into London St Pancras of only 35 minutes, whilst Gillingham station offers a train journey into London Victoria of just under an hour.
