Located in Hampshire, a beautiful county particularly noted for its rich maritime history, and for being the birthplace of esteemed authors, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, is the small but friendly town of Bordon. Home to around 15,000 people, this charming little town boasts several local shops, supermarkets and a community theatre, making it the perfect relaxing community base away from the hustle and bustle of larger cities, such as Portsmouth or Winchester.
Recently declared an Eco-town, Bordon takes pride in ensuring that all new development in the area brings about regeneration whilst protecting the natural environment. The town is just eight miles from Farnham, 12 miles from Aldershot and 19 miles from Guildford, providing residents with the luxury of rural life without being disconnected from modern urban facilities. Farnham holds several arts, crafts and farmers markets each month, as well as hosting a variety of concerts and plays at the community theatre, whilst the larger towns of Aldershot and Guildford provide a wealth of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs to cater for all. Country lovers can indulge in the stunning scenery of the New Forest, which is just an hour away, whereas adrenaline junkies can get their thrills closer to home, as the popular Thorpe Park theme park is also nearby.
The area around Bordon boasts a great historical heritage, with Farnham Castle, the Grade II Listed Manor Park House, the ruins of 12th Century Waverley Abbey, and the mysterious Mother Ludlam’s Cave all located nearby. The historical maritime cities of Portsmouth and Southampton also take less than an hour to drive to.
The region offers a wide range of schooling options, with Woodlea Primary School achieving good Ofsted reports and Eggar’s Secondary School being rated outstanding. Students wanting higher education could not be better facilitated, with the University of Surrey, Portsmouth, Southampton, Reading and Winchester all within an hour of Bordon.
Residents of Bordon are well connected to the local surroundings as well as London; a regular bus service takes residents into the neighbouring towns of Farnham, Aldershot and Alton, and the A3, which runs close to the town, provides easy access to both Portsmouth and the capital. The nearest railway station, Liphook, is located just four miles away and offers a commute of only an hour to London Waterloo, making Bordon a great rural home for professionals wanting to step back from the rush of city life. International travellers can also enjoy the convenient location of the town, which is under an hour’s drive from Heathrow Airport.
